Receivers perform many different important functions in your system

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Receivers perform many different important functions in your system. Along with being the central audio and video switching station, they handle audio signal processing and amplification, radio tuning, and, in some high-end models, upconversion of standard video signals for high-def output through Component Video or HDMI jacks. Other features you”ll find on receivers include ports for connecting an XM satellite radio antenna or iPod. Since the receiver is such a key component, it”s important to do your homework and select one that provides enough input and output connections to accommodate all your audio and video sources.

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Everyone knows when to go to the hospital in a physical emergency, but what are the warning signs of emotional emergencies? When and how do we get help for these urgent conditions? Most of us fear and/or dread mental illness, so it”s hardly surprising that emotional emergency is a widely taboo topic. This accounts for why many of us lack the insight and resources to deal with urgent emotional situations in our own lives, or in the lives of our friends and families.

David Viecelli, of Billions Corporation in Chicago, a booking & management firm whose roster includes Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Southern Culture on the Skids, Wire, Calexico, and the now disbanded Jesus Lizard. ‘Besides the obvious things, it is about finding someone who understands who the band is, what they want to get out of being a band, and what the realistic expectations for that band are in the marketplace.’

Christina Aguilera is back in the spotlight after a four-year break with her new hit album Bionic and the upcoming movie ‘Burlesque,’ and the multiple-Grammy winner reveals to ET’s own Kevin Frazier whether or not she plans to expand her family!

"Bionic is definitely my baby at the moment," says Christina. "Eventually, in the future, I do want to expand on my family and have another one, but for now, Bionic is the baby and ‘Burlesque’ is the other baby."

"I couldn’t be happier about the fact that the album’s inspired by my son, and the future, and the feeling of the movement of electronica music, in a sense," says Christina, "but still maintaining that rawness of having those definite ballads that evoke that pure, honest emotion. Being able to just pour my heart out into the beauty and emotion of a song is very important to me."

Following the explanation of this snafu by the head of terminal security Frank Dixon (Stanley Tucci), Viktor slowly comes to realize (the language barrier is great at first) the implications of the news reported to him. Dixon”s first inclination is to convince Viktor that he can make a run for it when the security detail changes shifts (but Dixon plans to have Viktor arrested outside so that the man isn”t his problem). But Viktor doesn”t bite. Instead, he decides to stay in the terminal, and the result is a hilarious and sometimes inspiring cacophony of events that lead Viktor to find his own way to survive.

First of all, let me get something straight. The actual notes and fretboards work the same for both, so if you start with either one, its always interchangeable, although the playing techniques might differ.

4. Notation software: Notation software really makes finding sheet music easy as pie! There are excellent notation software in the market that do a very good job in transcribing the Midi files into sheet music. The whole process is very simple and easy. You open the Midi files with the software, and it instantly arranged it into sheet music format. The good news is that it is very easy to find Midi files of almost any song from the web. The software that I used and recommend are Midinotate Composer and Noteworthy Composer. You can download 30 day trial version from their website. Best of all, they have friendly and supportive forums for their users.

The vice president of Bret Michaels‘ entertainment company is offering a health update on the "Celebrity Apprentice" winner and rocker, who has returned to the road since surviving a brain hemorrhage and subsequent warning stroke.

"While Bret may be out on the road and performing, he is still not 100 percent," Janna Elias, V.P. of Michaels Entertainment, tells People.com. "He still has pain from the chemical meningitis, short term memory loss and gets fatigued quicker than normal."

In order to get through the ordeal, she secluded herself from the public and relied on her faith.

Katharine McPhee Makes a Splash in Vegas

Katharine McPhee sang the songs of summer last weekend in Las Vegas. The "American Idol" alum treated fans to a poolside performance at the Azure Luxury Pool at The Palazzo.

As the inaugural performer of the season for "Stereo Love Saturdays," Katharine dipped her feet in the sparkling pool as she sang her hits. She said of the Sin City retreat, "I just think it’s such a cool environment. I love the party atmosphere. It kind of reminds me a little bit like Im in the South of France somewhere; just a different part of the world. Its kind of nice to come to Las Vegas and get a different taste of something."

In true Vegas fashion, the singer kept the party going all night long. "It’s a tradition for me whenever I come to Vegas I go to TAO [nightclub]," she said of her ritual.

Prince Pick Janelle Monae Covers The King of Pop Too

By Carolyn Richardson

In seven days, 25-year-old Janelle Monae, a rock & soul princess, has risen from seeming obscurity to taking on The King of Pop’s rumored favorite song "Smile" and Prince’s "Let’s Go Crazy" – two colossal songs that helped define their respective eras. With her electrifying performances of each, her talent ensures she won’t be letting the elevator bring her down anytime soon.

The first song, Charlie Chaplin’s "Smile," was featured on Billboard’s Mashup Mondays last week with an intimate live performance of the song, with Monae’s sultry voice only accompanied by soulful electric guitar. While many first learned of her unique style and James Brown-esque dance moves during her "Let’s Go Crazy" tribute to Prince at last night’s BET Awards, she has already amassed accolades for her own music.

Her first album release, Metropolis: The Chase Suite, included "Many Moons," which garnered a Grammy nod in 2009. She’s even touched "American Idol," as the 2009 finale featured "Open Happiness," an inspirational song co-written by Monae. With the momentum that she continues to gain, a Grammy win may be in order with last month’s release of her second album, The ArchAndroid, with its lead single "Tightrope" carrying a dance that is as entertaining and infectious as Michael Jackson’s Moonwalk. A master in the studio and on stage, the singer/songwriter has shared the same stage as mega stars No Doubt, Erykah Badu, Lupe Fiasco and is currently on tour with Of Montreal. She’s also firing up the tube, having appeared on "The Late Show with David Letterman," "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and The Mo’Nique Show.
