American Family Foundation

caf

Among the dozens of different groups that have sprouted over the years clamoring for various family-related issues, the American Family Foundation (AFA) has to be one of the most highly-visible and controversial of the lot. The groups has come a long way since being established as a wholly conservative, Christian non-profit organization in 1977 by Rev. Donald Wildmon. At that time, the group was known as the National Federation for Decency and it was based in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

‘You did,’ I replied, ‘But you seem to be doing what you think you should be doing to make money, and to please your husband and your children, and not what you really want to do. Both you and your mother made what I have noticed to be the biggest mistake women make in relationships. Both of you gave up your dream, gave up being who you really are, and that is why you are unhappy. In a way, we can say that you chose to give your power to your husbands and then resented them for it.’

If you paid to see this movie in the theater, I feel sorry for you, because you were robbed

Friday, February 20th, 2009

If you paid to see this movie in the theater, I feel sorry for you, because you were robbed. Not just robbed of your dignity, but robbed financially! Even her other movies were some what bearable, but this movie was like rolling naked down a hill of broken glass! One movie-goer on line said, ‘no surprises, it”s as bad as you expected.’ When I read that comment in the imdb.com movie review section, I started laughing. This movie is painfully boring!

U2, No Line On The Horizon

No Line On The Horizon proves that U2 really still have faith in themselves.

Howling Bells, Radio Wars

The second chance may well have been squandered.

The Invisible, Monsters Waltz

Enough to captivate the minds of even the most desperate souls out there.

School of Seven Bells , Alpinisms

They’ve created the soundtrack to the Noughties dreamer generation.

Dan Auerbach, Keep It Hid

You may find it admirable, beautifully crafted but, finally, limited.

The Prodigy, Invaders Must Die

Return to these twisted firestarters.

Bill Frisell, The Best Of Bill Frisell - Volume 1: Folk Songs

Once acquired, Bill’s a hard habit to break.

Art Ensemble of Chicago, Les Stances a Sophie

A pinnacle of its era. Or any other for that matter…

Jazzanova, Of All The Things

A perfectly balanced narrative

Grandmaster Flash , The Bridge

Hardcore hip-hop fans owe it to themselves to at least hear this record once.

Antonio Vivaldi, Vivaldi La fida ninfa

Vivaldi at his most irresistibly vivaciously, it is more than worth investigating.

The immediate factor of tone is the hammer

Friday, February 20th, 2009

The immediate factor of tone is the hammer. The hammer, by means of intermediate mechanism, being in direct and close contact with the far end of the key, is raised when the near end is depressed by the finger or any weight; and the force with which the hammer is made to strike the string is in proportion to the speed brought to bear on the piano key by the finger at the moment of the push. Quantity of tone is thus the result of the amount of speed used in pushing the key down.

"American Idol" had 12 contestants sing tonight and judge Simon Cowell didn’t seem blown away with the singers, calling one performance "forgettable."

The first performer, Jackie Tohn, sang Elvis Presley’s "A Little Less Conversation" but it was her black leggings and high top sneakers that got the most acclaim. Judges Paula Abdul and Kara Dioguardi called her performance "fun!" "Perfect is sometimes boring," Paula told Jackie. Simon was not amused. "I don’t think you did yourself any favors and by the way I don’t like the trousers," he said to Jackie.

Ricky Braddy performed "A Song For You" by Leon Russell and Kara praised his singing calling it "effortless." Simon, however, said he still doesn’t see the "star quality" in Ricky.
